The Pentax Optio 50L is a stylish, compact and lightweight camera that's very easy to use. The simplicity makes it a good beginners camera for simple no frills photography. It incorporates an autofocus 3x optical zoom, with 4x digital zoom for a total 12x zoom, with a built in auto flash, and at 5 megapixels the image quality is great for the price. This camera has a simple range of features, which include a large 2.5" screen and a movie mode with sound. There are also easy to use picture modes - Portrait, Landscape, Night scene, Sports, Simple, and a digital filter for creating Black & White, and Sepia results. The Optio 50L has Single-shot, Continuous, Auto bracket, and Self-timer drive modes, as well as the movie mode with sound, which is limited only by the size of the card you use. Economicaly priced it comes with a 12mb internal memory which is enough for approximately 5 high-quality images, so purchasing an optional 256mb card is a good way to optimize the camera's full abilities. It does not come with a battery or charger so a charger and rechargeable batteries are your best route to give you reliable and repeatable economic power, and a case to protect your camera when not in use (not included) will round out all you basically need.
