The first thing you'll notice about the FS-X1 is its unique design. This artful executive-style micro system features a handsome silver finish with few exposed controls for a sleek, minimalist look. It houses a top-loading CD player, AM/FM tuner, and full-function clock. And with a footprint as small as many desktop telephones, it fits easily on a bookshelf or end table.
The FS-X1 isn't just a looker. It employs JVC's innovative Hybrid Feedback digital amplifier (1/10th the size of conventional analog amps!), which allows the unit to maintain its incredibly compact and lightweight design. This highly efficient 60-watt amplifier uses digital and analog feedback loops to "clean" the signal for warm, low-distortion sound. Your hear your favorite CDs and radio stations with amazing richness and clarity.
The speakers feature a distinctive design with curved MDF cabinets and 3-3/16" full-range drivers. They dish out crisp, natural sound that packs a surprisingly big punch for such compact speakers. A line-level subwoofer output lets you hook up a powered sub (not included) for extended low-frequency response.
For expanded listening and recording options, JVC has included an analog aux input and an optical digital output. You can hook up an external component like a tape deck or MiniDisc player and run the sound through the FS-X1. And you can connect your CD recorder via the optical output and make pristine digital recordings.
Features:
- Sources: The FS-X1 has a top-loading, single-disc CD player with a motorized lid, an AM/FM tuner, and a stereo mini-jack input for an auxiliary source.
- CD Compatibility: This unit will play prerecorded CDs and finalized CD-R and CD-RW discs.
- Compu-Play: When using the remote, you can play a CD, turn on the radio, or listen to connected external equipment with a single press of that function's source/playback button. One Touch Operation turns the power on and switches to the selected source. (You may need to manually start playback of the component connected to the unit's line input.)
- Repeat Play: You can repeat all tracks or an individual track. When in the Normal Play mode, the all-repeat mode plays all tracks on the loaded disc. In the Program Play mode, the all-repeat mode repeats all tracks in the program. In the Random play mode, the all-repeat mode repeats all tracks in random order.
- Auto Power Off (A.P.Off): When the unit is in the CD mode, the Auto Power Off function will automatically turn off the unit when a "no signal" condition continues for three minutes. The A.P.Off function can be turned off, if desired.
- AM/FM Tuner: This system has a digital AM/FM Tuner. You can store up to 45 station presets (30 FM and 15 AM) so that you always have easy access to your favorite stations without having to tune them in manually each time. The tuner has three tuning modes: Manual, Preset, and Auto (seek) tuning. If you are listening to an FM station in stereo and the reception is weak, you can improve the sound quality by switching to Mono. Note: The FM tuning interval is 0.1MHz and the AM tuning interval is 10kHz.
- Beat Cut: When tuning the AM band, you can reduce the "beat noise" by switching to one of four Beat Cut modes, whichever provides the best reception.
- Line Input: You can connect an auxiliary audio component to this unit via the stereo mini-jack line input on the back panel. The aux input can be selected from the top panel or remote.
- Active Hyper Bass Pro: You can enhance the bass by activating the Active Hyper Bass Pro (AHB Pro). This function affects playback sound in the speakers and the headphones. When activated, the AHB Pro icon appears in the display.
- Bass/Treble: In addition to the AHB Pro, you can adjust the bass and treble from -5 to +5 each.
- Fade Muting: The volume quickly fades out when the mute button (on the remote) is pressed. When the mute function is released, the volume fades back up to the previous volume setting.
- Line Output: In addition to the line input, you can output a stereo signal from this unit to a tape or MiniDisc recorder via a mini-jack line output.
- Optical Digital Output: You can record the digital output signal of the CD player to a MiniDisc or other digital recording device via the Toslink optical digital output jack.
- Daily Timer: You can use the daily timer as an alarm clock to wake up to a CD, an AM or FM station, the line input, or one of 10 pre-recorded melodies at a preset volume level. The timer can sound at the full preset volume or gradually fade up to the preset level. Once the timer is active, it will operate everyday at the set time.
- Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the system off after a specified amount of time so you can fall asleep without worrying about the unit being left on all night. The sleep timer can be set to 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.
- Display/Dimmer: The unit has a 3-1/4" x 3/4" blue fluorescent dot matrix display. When the unit is on, the CD lid is also illuminated with a blue LED. The remote features a dimmer control with three brightness settings: dimmer off (display and CD lid fully illuminated), dimmer 1 (display and CD lid dimmed), and dimmer 2 (display dimmed/CD lid illumination off). When the unit is in standby (power off), you can turn off the display with the remote if desired.
- Remote Control: The unit comes with a wireless remote control with a numeric keypad. Several features can be enabled solely with the remote, such as direct CD track access, direct preset tuning, fade muting, and FM mono/stereo switching. The dimensions of the remote are: Length=6.0", Width=1.978", Depth=1.175".
- Speaker Design: The FS-X1 includes two 1-way speakers in a bass-reflex enclosure. Each speaker uses a full-range 3-3/16" aramid hyper neo olefin oblique cone woofer with a 4-layer voice coil. The cone has an asymmetrically-mounted voice coil to reduce standing waves inside the cone, resulting in overall better sound. Each speaker has a gray and silver vinyl finish and a removable silver cloth/black plastic grille. The speakers have spring clip terminals.
