Ultra Low ESR
How are Lightning caps able to deliver their power so quickly? The answer is super low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). Every Lightning Cap features up to 18 ultra-sonically-cold welded tabs. These tabs connect the foil winding to the terminals at the top of the capacitor with almost NO resistance. Only Lightning Caps feature an ESR below 1.5 milliohms, the lowest in the world. A Lightning cap can deliver up to 10,000 amps instantly!
High Gain Foil
Lightning capacitors use our super high gain foil. High-gain foil is created by passing the foil through several high-current (10,000 amp) chemical baths that "etch" the foil and create surface area. This allows us to have more capacitors in a smaller area.
Through-Post Design
Monitor caps feature through-post designs. The monitoring circuit is wired in parallel with the capacitor, not adding any resistance or inductance which could prevent the cap from doing its job. Other brands place current limiting PCB traces and relays between the cap and the terminals, making the capacitor much less effective.
