If you have a large household (or even a small business), an expandable phone system makes more sense than buying separate phones for everyone. Panasonic's KX-TG5200M gets you started with a base unit and single cordless handset, and you can add up to 3 more cordless handsets (not included) to suit your needs. Best of all, adding a handset to the system doesn't require any difficult wiring or installation: just plug the included charger stand into any available AC outlet.

The KX-TG5200M uses the uncrowded 5.8 GHz frequency range for both base-to-handset and handset-to-base communication, keeping your conversations secure and static-free. Plus, it won't interfere with Wi-Fi® home networking devices, which operate in the 2.4 GHz range.

Call Waiting Caller ID lets you view callers' names and numbers before you pick up, even if you're already on a call (requires subscription from local phone service provider). An illuminated LCD on the handset shows Caller ID information; your last 50 incoming calls are stored in memory for convenient return-calling. You also get a 50-entry phone directory for storing the names and numbers of your personal contacts.

With an additional handset, the KX-TG5200M becomes a handset-to-handset intercom — no more yelling upstairs! A speakerphone in the cordless handset allows hands-free conversation. You also get chain dialing, which lets you link stored numbers together (such as calling card and access numbers). You can even customize your system with downloadable ring-tones (available for a fee from openLCR.com)!

The KX-TG5200M also features Panasonic's Voice Enhancer Technology, which makes callers' voices clearer and more natural-sounding by interpolating frequencies above and below the standard telephone bandwidth restrictions.

Features:

  • 5.8 GHz digital spread spectrum operation
  • multi-handset operation (add up to 3 optional cordless handsets for a total of 4)
  • Voice Enhancer Technology (adds lost frequencies back to voices)
  • Chain Dial
  • 4-line backlit LCD display on handsets
  • Caller ID and Call Waiting Caller ID (where available; subscription required) shown on cordless handset and base
  • individual 50-entry phone directories for base and handset
  • phone directory sharing
  • 50 Caller ID memory
  • speakerphone built into the handset
  • jack for optional headset (on cordless handset)
  • privacy mode (locks out any other handsets on a particular call)
  • voice-mail message waiting indicator
  • downloadable ring-tones
  • 2-way paging and intercom
  • NiCad rechargeable battery (up to 4-1/2 hours of talk time per charge)
  • silver finish
