Get ready for a night out at the movies--in your own home--with Panasonic's 30-inch widescreen CT-30WX54 HDTV-ready set. You'll get brilliant, high-resolution from the PureFlat screen and enjoy movies the way they were meant to be seen in wide 16:9 aspect ratio. The CT-30WX54 also features an HDMI input, digital velocity scan modulation, picture-in-picture functionality (PIP), a motion-adaptive 3D comb filter, two HD component-video inputs, four A/V inputs (one in front), and three S-video inputs.

Panasonic's PureFlat screen minimizes reflections and distortion, so you can enjoy distraction-free TV viewing no matter where you sit in the room. The fine-pitch screen provides sharp images and excellent detail. To maximize picture quality, Panasonic's LCD TVs incorporate several video enhancement features. The motion-adaptive digital comb filter prevents any two lines with different colors from being processed together in the comb filter at the same time, minimizing any "hanging dots" in the image. With digital velocity scan modulation, advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses shifts from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in improved transitions.

The 16:9 aspect ratio, consistent with the shape of cinema screens as well as the HDTV broadcast format, enables viewers to enjoy the full impact of a film as its director originally intended. The screen also accommodates pan and scan or letterbox formats recorded at the 4:3 aspect ratio.

This set has a built-in 181-channel tuner, though you'll need an optional HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. The two built-in speakers (15 watts apiece) provide simulated surround sound and BBE high-definition audio enhancement, which helps restore the dynamic range of musical passages to help provide a more natural sound.

The CT-32SL14 has 4 composite A/V inputs (1 front), 3 S-video inputs (1 front), 2 component-video inputs, 1 RF, 1 headphone jack. It adds an HDMI connection, providing high-quality, uncompressed digital audio/video signal transmission.

Tech Talk

Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Traditional television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television has either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. A 16:9 aspect ratio is widescreen and appears rectangular, which looks more like a movie screen, filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

HDMI-HDCP interface: HDMI is a new standard digital connection between A/V devices, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver, and a digital television. HDMI offers exceptional video and audio quality with a single quick-disconnect connector. It supports multichannel digital audio transmissions and component-video color spacing for true rendering of HD video. HDMI supports the HDCP copy protection standard, allowing transmission of copy-protected digital content to your display.

Features:

  • HDTV/EDTV Display Capability (1080i, 480p)
Experience images with lifelike detail and clarity when viewing HDTV broadcasts (1080i) and progressive scan DVD players (480p).
  • 16:9 Aspect Ratio
Widescreen TVs feature a width-to-height ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing cinema-style entertainment at home. Also enables full-screen viewing of high-definition broadcasts and DVDs produced in 16:9 format.
  • DVI-HDCP Interface
Used by newer HDTV set-top boxes and DVD players, the DVI-HDCP connection allows the transmission of copy-protected digital content to your high definition display with stunning image fidelity and clarity. The DVI/HDTV input terminal complies with the EIA-861 Profiles standard for transmission of uncompressed digital video, including high bandwidth digital content protection. The DVI/HDCP input can be connected to an EIA/CEA 861 compliant consumer electronic device, such as a set top box1 or DVD player equipped with a DVI output connection. It is not intended for use with a personal computer. The DVI/HDCP input is designed for best performance with HDTV signals, such as 1080i or 720p picture signals. The DVI/HDCP input will also accept and display 480i and 480p picture signals.
  • Color Transient Improvement
Minimizes color smear at the edges of onscreen objects to help assure clear, distinct colors.
  • Progressive Cinema Scan (3/2 Pulldown)
Achieves exceptionally faithful movie reproduction through a sophisticated analog-to-digital conversion. Movies on film are converted to NTSC interlaced video (480i) for television by a process known as telecine conversion, in which the 24 frame-per-second film is converted to video at 60 fields per second. The fields are then paired to create 30-frame-per-second 480i video. Some of the frames will contain dissimilar pairs of fields derived from two different frames of the original film, which causes artifacts. Our Progressive Cinema Scan circuitry converts 480i video to 480p while restoring the original frames of the film for a more authentic movie reproduction.
  • Enhanced Progressive Scan Doubler
Provides even more image enhancement than our previous progressive scan technology by improving the quality of diagonal lines in a moving picture. It displays a full frame of video in 1/60th of a second by de-interlacing the incoming video signal and progressively scanning the image. With it, you generally don't see the horizontal scan lines that can be visible in ordinary television images.
  • Geomagnetic Correction
Helps improve overall picture accuracy by minimizing geometric distortion.
  • Selectable Digital Velocity Modulated Scan
Advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses transitions from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in sharp black-to-white transitions. For a more film-like picture when watching movies, you may want to selectively turn off this circuitry.
  • Horizontal and Vertical Edge Correction
Sharpens the edges of objects in the picture. Edge correction works in conjunction with the dynamic sharpness control and velocity modulated scan to help produce clean, crisp television images and reduce the unwanted effects of video noise.
  • Motion Adaptive 3D-Y/C Digital Comb Filter
Displays bright colors and action scenes with incredible clarity by minimizing the "color rainbow effect" in closely spaced patterns, compensating for the motion that occurs between fields.
  • Video Noise Reduction
Compares the picture signals for individual pixels of two consecutive fields, then removes the noise components that exist in both the luminance and chrominance portions of the signal.
  • Lighted Disc Home Theater Remote
This illuminated remote control can be programmed to control many current video and audio devices, such as VCRs, cable TV boxes, DBS receivers, DVD players, stereo receivers, CD players and audiocassette tape decks.
  • Channel Labeling with Presets
An ID of one to four characters can be assigned to up to 30 channels. This feature comes in handy when cable systems assign different channel numbers to familiar network stations.
  • Video Picture Memory Standard, Cinema, Vivid
Allows you to preset the television's picture parameters to either Standard, Cinema or Vivid, according to various viewing platforms. For instance, you may choose the Cinema preset parameters for DVD movie viewing. Once a preset is chosen it will remain in effect regardless of which video input is selected.
  • Video Input Skip
When using the TV/VIDEO key on the remote to scan through available video and antenna/cable inputs, you can bypass selected inputs to save time. This feature is handy when you want to toggle between two inputs, such as the TV mode and VCR input on televisions with multiple inputs.
  • Color Temperature Control
Allows you to adjust the white balance towards either blue (colder) or red (warmer).
  • Artificial Intelligence Sound
Controls the sound level to prevent wide variations in volume among different TV channels and types of programming.
  • Auto Programmable Scan
Automatically tunes all available channels in your area or cable system into memory, and then lets you add or delete the channels of your choice.
  • Channel Banner
Captures information transmitted with each program and places it on-screen in a semi-transparent banner. This information includes TV station identification and the V-chip rating for the program being transmitted.
  • V-Chip Program Lockout
The V-Chip allows users to block programming that may be inappropriate for certain viewers. Using program ratings embedded in TV broadcasts, the V-Chip lets parents decide the programming to which their children have access. Blocked program material is accessible only by entering a 4-digit code that parents create.
